My kids love these and when they were begging for them at the grocery store, I knew my next mission: recreate this nostalgic treat into an easy recipe with natural ingredients. Well, mission accomplished!
Homemade fudgesicle recipe
With just cocoa powder, banana, honey, milk and a silicone popsicle mold, these fudgesicles came to life. This homemade fudgesicle recipe tastes similar to the classic treat with a hint of banana. Chocolatey, creamy, and incredibly easy, this frozen dessert is perfect for hot summer days. The hardest part? Waiting for them to freeze!
If you don’t have a popsicle mold you can use an ice cube tray and stick wooden sticks in prior to freezing. This will make smaller fudgesicles perfect for little ones.
Are these dairy and gluten-free?
This delicious frozen treat is naturally gluten-free. To make dairy-free, substitute the milk for your favorite non-dairy alternative. Coconut cream or Oatly is a good choice to keep the popsicles super creamy. If you prefer a lighter and “icier” fudgesicle, opt for a thinner plant-based milk.
Optional add-ins
You can really make these fudgesicles your own. To add healthy fats, consider blending peanut butter or full-fat coconut milk with the other ingredients. You can also add goodies to the fudgesicles before you freeze. This is fun for kids who want to “help”. Cut-up pieces of fresh fruit and mini chocolate chips are always a hit.
Ingredients and Substitutes:
These are the main ingredients and substitutions. See the recipe card below for the full ingredients list and instructions for these fudgesicles.
Bananas: make sure they are ripe. Ripe bananas are very sweet and mix well to make a smooth and creamy fudgesicle.
Honey: can replace with maple syrup.
Cocoa powder: to yield a rich chocolate flavor use any high-quality, unsweetened cocoa powder. I used Anthony’s organic.
Milk: I used 2% Fairlife. You can use whole milk, plant-based milk or even coconut cream.
