This banana protein shake reminds me of a vanilla milkshake. Made with greek yogurt, protein powder, banana and almond milk, this simple drink is rich and creamy with enough protein to keep you full and satisfied. Bonus, my kids absolutely love this one and it has 31 grams of protein.

I drink a smoothie or protein shake almost every day. There’s so many ways to make them so I never get bored. Keep this one as is or add your favorite goodies. This one isn’t crazy sweet, so if you need an extra boost of sugar, add a little honey or a few dates to sweeten things up.

  • Ripe Banana: you want a few brown spots on the peel. You can use frozen banana to make this extra cold.
  • Vanilla Protein Powder: I’m using PEScience gourmet vanilla, use code OHSNAP to save. It’s my favorite for smoothies because it blends nicely and has the perfect amount of sweetness. Use your favorite powder that you know blends well and doesn’t get chalky.
  • Unsweetened Almond Milk: any type of milk. I love using oat milk if I want my smoothie extra creamy.
  • Greek Yogurt: I used 5% plain greek yogurt. You can use vanilla flavored for an extra boost of vanilla. If you use a low or non-fat yogurt the smoothie won’t be as rich.

Variations

  • To add extra sweetness, add 1-2 dates with the pits removed.
  • Add in peanut butter, almond butter or drizzle low calorie peanut syrup on top.
  • Top with sliced almonds, shredded coconut and additional banana slices.

Dietary Modifications

  • For dairy-free, use a dairy-free protein powder and dairy-free yogurt.
  • This recipe is gluten-free, if using PEScience protein powder.

I don’t suggest blending everything together until ready to enjoy. The consistency is best when made fresh on the spot.
