Creamy sauce in a small bowl with a spoon.

If you’ve ever made my famous Big Mac Casserole, then you know this Big Mac sauce is a true low-calorie winner. It has the flavors of McDonald’s special sauce but only uses 4 simple ingredients.

With only 4 ingredients that you likely have on hand you can have a quick and easy sauce for burgers, Big Mac Salad Bowls, Big Mac Wraps, and Big Mac Pizza (with cottage cheese crust.. what?!) or just dipping your potatoes. It has the perfect balance of sweet tanginess without the miracle whip and goes great with just about everything.ย

What is Big Mac Sauce?

The special sauce on the famous McDonald’s Big Mac Burger. It’s creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet. While some think it kind of sort of resembles a Thousand Island dressing or French Dressing but it is different.

Thousand Island dressing contains tomatoes, which the Big Mac Sauce does not have and French Dressing is oil-based. However, their sauce contains a LOT of ingredients. So we’ve simplified it down to 4 simple ingredients that you likely have on hand to get as close to the real deal as possible.

Ingredients and Substitutes:

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for this Big Mac Sauce. See the recipe card below for the complete list of ingredients and instructions:

Mayonnaise, ketchup, chopped pickles and pickle juice for the sauce.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Light, regular, avocado, and dairy-free mayonnaise all work great.
  • Use regular or sugar-free ketchup.
  • If you want a sweet sauce use sweet pickle relish.
  • Opt for dill pickle relish instead of chopping your own.
  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, or pepper to taste if preferred.
  • Use Greek yogurt OR cottage cheese in place of mayonnaise.

Dietary Modifications

  • Gluten-free as written.
  • To make dairy-free use a dairy-free mayonnaise.

What to serve with this homemade sauce:

This Big Mac Bowl is one of my favorite meal prep recipes because eating it for multiple days in a row doesn’t get boring. Even better, it’s low carb, high in protein, and delicious.

The Big Mac Casserole is an Oh Snap Macros reader favorite and for a very good reason. It’s high in protein, and has all the Big Mac flavors, and kids and adults love it.

This homemade sauce is amazing on homemade burgers, french fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, potato chips, hot dogs, smash burgers, Sloppy Joes, pizzas and with about just anything dipped into it. I could go on and on with ideas for this sauce.

Itโ€™s perfect for anyone who is tracking macros and wants a good dreamy sauce with way fewer calories.

Or you can do the real thing .. “Two All Beef Patties, Special Sauce, Lettuce, Cheese, Pickles, Onions on a Sesame Seed Bun,” and have yourself a Big Mac Burger with a low-calorie homemade version of the famous sauce at home.

How to store your homemade special sauce:

Place any leftover sauce in an airtight container and enjoy within 4 days. Simply spread on your top bun or bottom bun when you’re ready to enjoy it!
