Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes
These easy and delicious extra crispy air fryer smashed potatoes are a great side dish to any meal. Using simple seasonings and petite golden potatoes this side dish (or snack!) is ready in the air fryer to be topped with chimichurri, your favorite sauce or even plain. Serve with grilled steak, chicken or even in salads.

Can you make these air fryer potatoes ahead of time?
Yes, air fryer smashed potatoes reheat great and are perfect for meal prep. Reheat in the air fryer to keep them crispy. They will soften in the microwave.
Can you roast the potatoes in the oven instead?
If you do not have a air fryer to make these air fryer breakfast potatoes you can boil to soften, smash and then bake them. Bring a pot of water to the boil, cook potatoes until soft – around 20 to 25 minutes. Alternatively, steam or microwave them. Drain and transfer to a paper towel to dry. Place on a baking sheet and smash, add oil and seasonings, bake at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 40-45 minutes until crispy.

I have the COSORI Air Fryer Oven Combo 5.8QT Max XL Large Cooker, linked here. I do find it is pretty loud in the kitchen but it gets the job done and makes perfect air fryer smashed potatoes. We have had it for years without any issues.

Petite Golden Potatoes: you can use any kind of small potato for this recipe. The cooking times will vary if your choose small fingerling or large potatoes, vs. petite.
Olive Oil: use regular, light, extra virgin, coconut oil, avocado oil or whatever oil you prefer. Nutrition facts are for regular olive oil.
Seasonings: this recipe uses salt, pepper, garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Feel free to add any other fun flavors as you’d like.
How to make these air fryer air fryer smashed potatoes:
Step 1: Wash and Prep
Preheat your air fryer. While the air fryer is pre heating wash and dry potatoes leaving the skin on.
Step 2: Air Fry
Add the whole potatoes to the air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Once done cooking remove and check that the potatoes are fork tender to be smashed. You do not want to over cook the potatoes or they will turn into mashed potatoes if they are to soft.
Step 3: Smash
Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and smash with bottom of a coffee cup, cup or mason jar. Whatever you have on hand will work. Lightly press down on the potato until they’re smashed to at least 1/2 inch thick.
Step 4: Season and Air Fry
While the potatoes are on the baking sheet drizzle the olive oil and seasonings over the tops. Place the potatoes back in the air fryer pan. Try not to overlap, you may need to work in two batches if you have larger potatoes and you cannot fit them all.
Once returned to the air fryer cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Enjoy your air fryer smashed potatoes.
Step 5: Chimichurri
Finely chop all ingredients and add to a small bowl with oil and vinegar. Mix together well and serve with potatoes, on steak or chicken and enjoy.

For best tracking of the chimichurri sauce, I suggest making the recipe in your tracking app and setting the total servings to the TOTAL grams of sauce you end up with. This way you can use as many grams as desired and it will log accordingly.
