Ingredients and Substitutions
These are the main ingredients and substitutions. See the recipe card below for the full ingredients list and instructions for the Cinnamon Roll French Toast Egg Bake.
King’s Hawaiian Rolls: adds a touch of sweetness and bake to a perfect golden brown. You may use old bread, if preferred, but might change the texture and taste.
Brown sugar: for sweetness. Can be substituted with sugar alternatives, such as Swerve.
Egg whites: you will need an entire 32 oz container. If using whole eggs: 7 eggs is equivalent to 32 oz. egg whites.
Milk: I used whole milk. Can use egg nog, pumpkin pie spice coffee creamer or another preferred flavored creamer.
Lite pancake syrup: sweetens the casserole. Regular maple syrup can also be used.
Protein powder: be sure to use a vanilla protein powder you love the taste of!
Note: this recipe will taste like eggs. It is a egg bake. You can add vanilla extract to the egg mixture to eliminate some of the egg flavor.
Variations
- Flavor Additions: pumpkin pie spice or egg nog has been used in the Cinnamon Roll French Toast Egg Bake as a milk alternative, coffee creamer would work also.
Dietary Modifications
- For gluten-free, you will need to use a gluten-free Hawaiian roll.
- For dairy-free, use a dairy free milk, Hawaiian rolls and protein powder.

Finally, top with syrup and bake for 30 โ 45 minutes, times may vary oven to oven โ mine is done around 30/35 (image 4).

Expert Tip!
When it starts puffing up like crazy in the oven, do not panic! It happens due to the egg whites, don’t worry it’ll go down.
Recipe FAQs
Store your cinnamon roll French toast casserole in an airtight container for 4-5 days in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave.
My favorite way to serve this is with a savory component, like my blueberry breakfast sausage, homemade maple chicken sausage or bacon. You could also add cream cheese icing, your favorite French toast toppings like fresh fruit, powdered sugar and additional syrup or simply enjoy it as is.
As long as you use one you love the taste of that mixed well with liquid you will be fine. I like using PEScience Gournet Vanilla. Use code OHSNAP to save $$.
Just cut into equal squares! There is no need to ruin a casserole for 5 grams here or there unless you’re prepping for a bikini competition.

Soooo good! Prepared it the night before and it still turned out great!
Great to hear, thank you!
This is so amazing! I make it every week for meal prep and have been for the last 6 months! Add some fruit and it’s your perfect high protein breakfast!
I make this regularly for quick and easy breakfasts. Love it!
Absolutely LOVE this recipe! I’ve been making it consistently since I discovered it nearly a year ago. Great for meal prep, easy to make, and reheats well. I’ve experimented with a couple of adjustments including halving the sugar, fully substituting sugar for vanilla protein powder for an extra protein boost, and adding frozen berries before baking. All variations turned out great do not compromise the taste or texture at all!
Hi there,
I see that it says nutrition with icing is in the notes section, but I canโt find the notes. Can you help??
My grocery store finally started stocking Kingโs Hawaiian! I immediately did this recipes.
Absolutely love it, thank you!
Made this for Christmas brunch and everyone loved it! Couldnโt find Hawaiian Rolls (in Canada, no luck finding) but substituted cinnamon bread and it turned out great. Delicious – will be making this often!
This recipe is always on my weekly meal prep list!! So easy to throw together and a wonderful way to work in protein thatโs not just straight eggs.
Love this! I freeze it portioned out and itโs PERFECT for when I want a sweet breakfast and is perfectly balanced with carbs and protein!
Huge hit in my house! We usually do breakfast for dinner one night a week and weโre getting bored. Tried this and (7), (3) and (1) year old loved it (us parents too ๐). I did add two extra Hawaiian rolls and use agave. Just a few tweaks that change the macros a little but make it taste a little less egg white-y which my kids werenโt loving.
Long story short-love this recipe and love how easy it was to make small changes that worked for our family! Thank you
Iโve made his twice and itโs amazing! Super easy and warms up beautifully for meal prepping breakfast. Canโt recommend enough.
I love this recipe! I add 1 to 2 tbs vanilla extract to up the richness. This gets rid of the “egg” flavor and keeps it true to French toast.
Love love love this recipe! We make it every other week for a fast, high protein breakfast.
Delicious and super easy to make
Is it super eggy or more bread-like? Excited to try this one but afraid my kids won’t eat it if the eggs are overpowering.
Thanks!
