Glass dish of five-layer dip.

This 5 layer taco dip recipe is made with refried beans, guacamole, a creamy homemade taco seasoning, cheese and salsa for a flavorful dip that’s always a huge hit. Everything is perfectly layered and takes about 5 minutes with an hour chill time, making it the perfect party app.

I kept this 5 layers but add any toppings you love. Black olives, lettuce, a drizzle of cottage cheese avocado crema, anything goes. Be gentle with your layers; you don’t want to smoosh them all together before your guests have a change to “ooh and aah” over it.

Let me rave but this homemade taco seasoning real fast. In this recipe it’s mixed with Greek yogurt making it a sour cream like layer but you can use it for EVERYTHING. Use it for ground chicken tacos, turkey taco bowls, taco queso dip and air fryer shrimp tacos.

Discover the essence of a 5 Layer Dip from a top view on a speckled countertop: refried beans, guacamole, Greek yogurt, shredded Mexican cheese, pico de gallo, and spices like chili powder. Two jalapeรฑos and a lime wedge add zest to this Mexican dish delight.
  • Refined Beans: we use a can of refried beans for the first layer for a more traditional dip. Substitute with black beans, if preferred.
  • Guacamole: Wholly Guacamole is my favorite. Any guac (including homemade!) will work.
  • Non-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt: you can use full-fat for a more creamy dip.
  • Taco Seasoning: my homemade seasoning is super easy but you can use a packet of taco seasoning.
  • Mexican Blend Cheese: Monterey Jack cheese, cheddar cheese or even pepper jack cheese works.
  • Pico de Gallo: or any chunky salsa or cut-up fresh tomatoes.
